How self isolation is positively impacting your future self

CURRENT STATE

I am 28, live alone, and have been in a cycle of “I’ll start it once I get this or that”. Where does that leave you? Where I’m at. Feeling always lost or unfulfilled.

I just realized I have had the definition of a goal completely wrong for years now. I have been seeking a title or the hashtag #goals of the internet. Envisioning myself in a career, relationship, home, or lifestyle that was not mine to have. Not saying I could not achieve whatever my eyes laid upon but I never stopped to ask myself did that align with my vision of who I want to become a.k.a. my future self. Did I even have a clear view of what my future self looked like? No. How could I have made it to 28 and it never cross my mind to sit down and do some soul searching? I often let my mind wander when I should have been focused on what was in front of me and how it was impacting future me. Now that I have no distraction of where I have to be or could be; this time has been the most enlightening.

THEM CHANGES

So many changes are happening in this world due to COVID-19. A major shift has occurred. There will be a new norm. How will you fit into this new norm? Will you continue the way you were before? None of us will be able to. There will be a lot of restructuring of what we once thought was a standard.

I started this article with my age, living situation, and current state for a reason. Although we are going through a collective experience on the outside, individually each of our insides is different from the next. The reinvention of oneself is still achievable if you want it. I will share 8 ways I am aiding my reinvention that can be tailored to a different age, living situation, or current state with few modifications.

8 WAYS TO REINVENT YOURSELF

  1. Go to sleep early and get up early
  2. Create a morning and evening routine and stick to it
  3. Ask yourself how your future self looks and what you are doing right now to get there
  4. Make it quantitative. Put a goal date and number to everything
  5. Set boundaries. Just because you are home does not mean you have to answer every call or work beyond your usual hours
  6. Give yourself grace
  7. Write it out to hold yourself accountable. Whatever floats your boat; a notebook, planner, dry erase board, corkboard, or notes on your phone. Have something to go back to every day to keep you on track and check off at the end of the goal time frame. It’s so fulfilling.
  8. Start now! I am curating my outside to match the changes happening on my inside starting with my journey to minimalism, revamping my wardrobe, my social media image, and my confidence.

Your future self is waiting for your current self to kick things in gear. It’s easier to fall into a cycle of “what day is it ?” during this time but I proclaim over your life that that does not have to be you anymore. We are in this together. See you on the other side of this … your future self is there.
